Things That Are "Things"

Somewhere along the line, things become things.

Like the #latergram or LMFAO
(both the music duo and the acronym)
or people writing “I literally died”
when this couldn't possibly be true
if they’re still capable of posting that shit.

Somewhere along the line, things become things.

Like Throwback Thursday or
“that’s what she said” or the Twizzle.

You catch wind of these breezy bits and tilt your head like a confused puppy to be all like, “Wait, whaaa -- is that really a thing?” And even your bestie, who lives life under rock, bites his lower lip and unabashedly says, “Yeah, that’s definitely a thing.”

Some things are agenda setters and live short, in-your-face, shelf lives -- while other things may go undiscussed and fly under the radar for years.  Some things are only things for some people -- things I’ll never subscribe to -- like being a DICKHEAD Arizona lawmaker or giving up cheese fries for Lent
(to think of two off the top of my head).

And with that, I welcome you to the February edition of
{insert drum roll here}

THINGS I COULD’VE DONE WITHOUT THIS MONTH

Thundersnow (yet again) here in CHIberia.

Not gonna lie though, Jim Cantore's coverage provided an epic and oh-so-worthy belt of laughter. So we got that goin' for us, which is nice.

GOOD THINGS THAT COME FROM BAD THINGS

#SochiProblems #SocialFail

As as result of Vladimir Putin being a total fucking nightmare, Stoli donated $150,000 to the Russia Freedom Fund and $300,000 to the L.A Gay & Lesbian Center in efforts to fight homophobia and to publicly promote their proud stance in support of gay rights. As a result of that, bars here in Chicago's Boystown lifted their bans on the Vodka brand.

Amen, Anderson!

Check out Parts 1 and 2.
It's kind of like an SNL sketch, except it's not funny.

Loving Late Night

I've never been one to go to bed early, which pretty much makes it like a dream come true to be able to crack up at Seth Myers for a full hour before falling asleep :)

ReWILDing Genius

Last night Steve & I went to see ReWILDing Genius -- one of three plays being previewed at the Steppenwolf Garage Rep festival this month -- and we both thought it absolutely rocked.

I know I tend to be the glass-half-full type (especially when the glass is filled with any form of alcohol) but I genuinely enjoyed this production and highly recommend seeing any of the features at the Steppenwolf Garage theater.

With only 80-seats, you're practically part of the performance and if you're a fellow Gen-Xer or Millennial who has a passionate pulse, this is certainly the show you should see.

Kudos to The New Colony team for bringing this brainchild to life! Your love for theater is inspiring and I wish you the BEST of luck with your continued success :)

It is 2 hours and $20 of your life well spent.

Note to self:
GO TO SEE MORE THEATER PRODUCTIONS!!!

Bee the Change

Staycation

The best part of living in the 3rd largest city in America is that you don't have to actually leave in order to get away.

Case in point:
Head to happy hour at Three Dots and a Dash

The entrance is an experience in itself.

Head down the alley, past the tiki torches

into the basement

where you will find bliss :)

Chenin and I ordered the Mai Tai (obvs) and an Old-Fashioned to start. Both of which were scrumptious (and highly potent).

Then it was onto a "Painkiller No.3" and an "Aloha, Mexico" just to make sure we felt like we were no longer here in Chicago, but somewhere on an island far far away.

Layer on an order of Coconut Shrimp with Magic Mustard dipping sauce and you're golden!

On the cab ride home I had a female taxi driver from Russia. We talked about Sochi and our mutual disdain for all-things-Putin after which she told me her story about coming to the States. It made me feel incredibly lucky and blessed to say the least.

I hope your Friday is filled with happiness
(and a Happy Hour or two ;)

Bright Side of the Road

Winter has a way of seriously fucking with your psyche.

In no other season is it possible for my mood to switch from sweet to semi-suicidal so quickly. And so, it is during these swings, that I lean on my good pal, Pinterest

SWOON...

YES, PLEASE...

THANK YOU!

LET'S GO ON AN ADVENTURE :)
