When I was 8 years old, the pint sized activist that was me went around the neighbor, door-to-door, selling random shit from my house in order to raise money to "save the manatees!" and to adopt endangered species from the Lincoln Park Zoo.
True story.
The neighbors, in turn, called our landline to tell my parents I was "back at it again" in lieu of calling the police. Sensible Samaritans.
I was the founder and president of the "Animal Friends Association", a club with a membership of anyone I could convince in the hallway during the passing period with handmade fliers to join my mission.

I once was, and forever will be, a passionate person.
So when I had the opportunity to put on a book launch event for Wayne Paccelle, the president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States of America, you better believe I proudly devoted every voluntary minute of my not-so-free-time to take part.
There are a few things in life that truly matter.
This night was one of those things for me.

PS BTW: While on the topic of the Humane Society, this is also an article that is absolutely worth reading.
